For Marine Day, I would like to talk about watermelon splitting, which is a staple of summer. In Japan, hand-held fireworks and watermelon splitting on the beach or BBQ are old-fashioned staples. Watermelon splitting is a strange game in which a watermelon is placed in a predetermined position, blindfolded and smashed with a stick. It’s a fun game in its own way, but Kumatamo thinks watermelon tastes better if you cut it with a kitchen knife and eat it normally. Watermelon is the perfect fruit for summer hydration. 海の日のため、夏の定番スイカ割りについてお話します。日本では浜辺やBBQで手持ち花火をしたり、スイカ割りをするのが昔ながらの定番です。スイカ割りはスイカを所定の位置に置き、目隠しをし棒で叩き割るという奇妙キテレツな遊びです。それはそれで楽しいゲームですが、クマタモはスイカは普通に包丁で切って食べた方が美味しいと思います。水分補給にも夏にスイカは丁度よい果物です。今年も災害級の暑さの日々が続いているため皆様熱中症にご注意！ご自愛くださいませ。
