“ＳＵＫＩＹＡＫＩ”は坂本九の楽曲で、1963年6月15日付において全米ビルボードのランキングHot 100週間1位を獲得した大ヒットソングです。日本語名のタイトルは”上を向いて歩こう”。なぜスキヤキソングなのかというと、ケニー・ボール楽団というイギリスのディキシーランド・ジャズのバンドが、この曲を最初に録音したとき”uewomuite-arukoh”という題がみんなどうしても覚えられなくて、スタジオで「そういえば浅草で食べたすき焼きがさー…」などと雑談していたところ、誰かが「面倒だから『スキヤキ』って呼ぼうや」と言い出して、それがそのままレコードのタイトルになってしまったことからです(Wikipediaより引用)。しかしその結果、より多くの人に親しみを持ってもらえ大ヒットに繋がりました。ちなみに歌詞にはすき焼きなど微塵も登場せず”上を向いて歩こう、涙がこぼれないように…”から始まる切ない歌です。坂本九さんの人生もなかなか波瀾万丈です。興味が出た方はググってみてくださいね。

The reason why it’s called a sukiyaki song is that when a British Dixieland jazz band called the Kenny Ball Band recorded this song for the first time, they couldn’t remember the title “uewomuite-arukoh”, so they went to the studio and said, “Oh yeah.
