Last year was the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympics. Corruption and scandals have made the opening and closing ceremonies of the Tokyo Olympics an embarrassment for many Japanese. However, the ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympics was very wonderful. A musical reenactment of the story of a girl in a wheelchair with one wing. The following is a quote from YouTube, so if you have time, please watch it while drinking cafe au lait or eating melon! ↓

Highlights include storytelling, directing, and dancing. The scene in which a musician named Tomoyasu Hotei appears in a flashy truck called Dekotora was also impressive.

It may be difficult to understand, but it is a light production of the national flag fluttering in the wind.

A hat worn by volunteer dancers. Just like the flying tool Takecopter that appears in the national anime “Doraemon”! It became a topic. The costumes of all the performers were also wonderful!

Three Agitos drawn by Blue Impulse. The Three Agitos is the symbol of the Paralympic Games. “Agito” means “I move” in Latin. It expresses the figure of Paralympians around the world who will not give in to difficulties and challenge themselves to the limit. These three colors were chosen as the most used colors in the flags of the world. I would like to tell you about the beginning of the Paralympic Games, but I can’t explain it well, so I’m quoting from Wikipedia below. ↓

In 1960, the International Stoke Mandeville Games Committee was organized with Guttmann as chairman, and the 9th International Stoke Mandeville Games were held in Rome, where the Olympic Games were held that year. This competition is now called the first Paralympic Games.

The second tournament was the 13th Stoke Mandeville International Games held in Tokyo in 1964, the same year the Summer Olympics were held.

Just before the Paralympic Games, NHK’s serial drama “Taiyo wo Aitashita Hito” was broadcast, starring Osamu Mukai and depicting the life of Dr. Yutaka Nakamura, the father of the Japanese Paralympics. It was a very good drama, so I hope it will be rebroadcast before the Paris Paralympics.
